As a retired mental health professional I was not able to enjoy this story. Some of the characters were victims of child molestation/terrible sexual abuse, and incest. The reviews of others who had read the story were totally misleading. Had I known the subject matter of this book I would not have purchased it. I did not find any of it humorous because it was too close to real life events I encountered in my profession. What others might call dark humor was at times macabre, haunting, and upsetting to me. Definitely not light reading for the beach, as one person noted about the book. I do hope we have not become so used to hearing and reading about child abuse that we can overlook it in a "light Krimi". I so wish I had been forewarned what the story was about...Product details

A fun novel filled with quirky characters and a clever story line. I enjoyed this read thoroughly, and can highly recommend it to German readers or people learning the language!
This book was very well written, and until the side story (that happened in the past) revealed itself, quite entertaining. After that it became very real and I was shocked by it.
Child abuse is not funny and I absolutely agree with another reviewer, this is no easy read on the beach, unless someone is so completely immune against issues like molestation and abuse.
Even the sidekicks seem more sad than funny.
This is a thriller with a very serious subject and it should be advertised as such. Some of the reviews were more than misleading.
I bought the German version of this detective novel for two reasons to try improve my German (an easy task; it is so bad anything will improve it) and because I love detective stories.
Whether it has improved my German it is too early to tell, but it certainly didn't make it any worse.
As for the novel it is a very good read; not quite Dorothy L. Sayers but very good it is.
If you can't read German, definitely buy it in the language you prefer. Worth it, and very much so.
