America A Conflicted Nation is a discussion of issues about which Americans feel conflicted. Being conflicted is about feeling positive and negative about something at the same time, and being unable to shake off the uncomfortable feeling it produces.
America is truly an extraordinary country; but there are many things that leave us feeling uneasy.
Trying to read the tealeaves is frustrating because many economists don't agree on our future. Such divergent views leave many of us wondering if anyone really knows what our future holds.
Whatever that future is, we must never stop believing in America's greatness or in America's moral authority. However convoluted our future appears, we must always remember that most of the world looks to us for moral guidance and a strong sense of what is right and wrong.
Much of the world focuses on us for leadership. They expect us to set the example and to lend a hand whenever it is needed. Many Americans feel conflicted about our country's role in the world, as well as how we address national issues that affect only our own residents.
However you may feel about these issues, I hope you will find my coverage of them interesting.

This is a book everyone should read. It is thought provoking and I shared many of the chapters with my husband. We both agree with the authors view points, however even if we didn't I would still have read it. It is always good to hear viewpoints other than our own. The facts that were presented are scary, however the author gives practical solutions to what is facing us long term. I guess you have to live long enough to see the forest from the trees. I wish every politician would read this book and hear what I believe the majority is saying.Product details

America A Conflicted Nation America Series Book 4 edition by Donald Gilleland Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews
Mr. Gilliland has the honest , no B.S. View that Americans need , thank you sir. I look forward to reading more of your books.
Just another bible thumper proselytizing on how marriage equality goes against god. "Jest look at how's they built! Can't have proper bible sex!" Rolled my eyes so many time while reading this, they finally disappeared somewhere in the back of my head.
This book will give you something to really think about. It is something that would spark a lot of conversation with family and friends. The author provides readers with facts and solutions that every American citizen should consider and think about. Gilliland is honest and blunt about the things he says, and the reader can tell he is firm in what he believes. He addresses everything from military, energy, security, even a little bit of religion mixed in. While I have many of the same viewpoints as he does, some we do not share, I think this is a book every one should read as it would challenge your own viewpoints and how you think things should be run. America A Conflicted Nation is a great book that I honestly could not put down even though this is not the type of book I would generally find myself reading, but picked it up on the recommendation of a friend.
America A Conflicted Nation (America Series Book 4) by Donald Gilleland features compelling and critical discussions on the issues that confront the American people today, offering fresh perspectives from the author. In this slim but powerful book, the author talks about the economy, about leadership and the political landscape of the country. Readers will be witness to the fears and triumphs and the hope the author has for the nation. The book is written in a very simple and engaging style and the voice comes across powerfully to the reader. One has the immediate feeling that the author knows so well what he talks about. This is one of the books from a writer who seems to be well-informed about the American conundrum and he shares his views and expresses his fears and hopes for the nation with unwonted clarity. This is one of the books that can contribute hugely to a new form of social consciousness, a must read for those who truly love America.
A source for reflection would be a good way to describe America A Conflicted Nation. Don Gilleland’s central theme is “Our society is un¬dergoing extraordinary changes ideologically, culturally, morally, and religiously.” that “. . . may take many years to smooth out . . .” As he addresses a variety of topics, including race relations, increased dependence on the government, civility, the economy, our judicial system, technology, and national defense, how you reflect on them may well be governed by your age and life experiences, and be different than Don’s.
By juxtaposing the prevailing attitudes and conduct in America one or more generations ago with the attitudes and conduct today he spotlights the conflicts that people and institutions face now. For example, in terms of civility Don posits that “We are becoming an extraordinarily crass, egocentric, cynical and confrontational society in which many citizens seem to honestly believe the only opinion that matters is theirs . . .” Among the things he cites to support that contention are how people behave in a movie theater or in face-to-face discussions/confrontations.
He does not shy away from controversial subjects. He covers what is happening in a mostly Christian America as its Muslim population grows; the nation’s dependence on petroleum and what might be its future energy solution; the constant increase in government spending and the growth of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid; and the effect of military cutbacks, including sequestration on national security.
Don has strong opinions on the topics he covers, but that should not be a deterrent to a reader as they are well stated and don’t detract from a stimulating and good read.
great book for the times
